Why Do I Use Firefox

This post was originally posted by William Long on Moonlight. It is translated by Philips Shiu on V.O.ASIA.

Although Google Chrome 4.0 has several advantages ans runs quite fast, I, however, still stay on Firefox. The reasons mainly comes as follows,

  1. Firefox supports remote domain name resolution, which perfectly resolves the problem of DNS cache pollution. Thus it provides the best ever experience for proxy surfing. According to some backlink stats, there are some 400 Web sites in the DNS cache pollutioned pool.
  2. Firefox has a nice add-on for twitter. That’s Echofon (Twitterfox) Almighty version, which allows me update my tweets without fucking the Wall.
  3. Firefox has Autoproxy. It is also an add-on that let me forget the existence of the Wall.
  4. Firefox has IE tab. It is another nice add-on with which I don’t have to worry about the compatibility problem of IE browser.
  5. Firefox has great compatibility, where many Chrome-unfriendly Web sites can be shown normally.
  6. Firefox marks “We believe that the internet should be public, open and accessible.” on its developer’s official Web site. This point of view is quite admirable.

Generally speaking, as above, Firefox has a lot of third-party add-on extensions, great security, multi-platform and open-source, as well as liberal open value. With its proxy add-on, we can conviniently get over the Wall, which is a necessity for China’s Internet users. Therefore, so far as this post, I cannot switch to any other browser.

Pivot of China’s economic growth

This time when I arrived in Wuhan, it looks no more like the one I was familiar with. I found every single main street is under construction. Then, I thought of the one episode that I listened to on BBC.

It says within this financial tsunami, every country was trying to survive with huge budget, including China. For China, in order for the 8% GDP growth, the huge construction is needed to promote the comprehensive economic activities, so that as many workers as possible could have a job. That’s why I see so many road works in Wuhan.

In my opinion, the pivot for the economic growth should be internal demand in China. Although the huge industrial constrution is one way to stimulate it, the people might have no interest in that. And the other way to achive that stimulus should be the people’s purchase.

For today’s China, two factors that make Chinese people save money in the banks are housing and medical service. So the budget would be better invested thereof. Since housing is ridiculously expensive in China, then the latter one, medical service should be the target.

Let’s think if one in China doesn’t have to pay attention to their medical fees. Then, a lot of people would like to use it instead of saving it to the bank.

If the government can performance out this idea, that would be very good for the regime and people.

Zhongguolish in Wuhan

When you see import/export, you must be thinking of foreign business and trade. However, when that happens in China, you need to try to associate it with some Zhongguolish. Take this import/export for an example, be creative as possible.

The answer is the entry/exit of a parking lots. Did you get it?

Two nice tweets

These days, I found some nice tweets on twitter, first one from @williamlong and the other @cranewang. Let’s take a look:

Google for the world while Baidu for us; Youtube for the world while Youku for us; milk for the world while Sanlu for us; video games for the world while Audition Dance Battle for us; Facebook for the world while Happiness for us; MSN for the world while QQ for us; WCDMA for the world while TD for us; FTTH for the world while ADSL for us; internet for the world LAN for us.

Pan made a similie from twitter to democracy. If twitter is democracy, then fanfou is Hong Kong-style democracy, where there is not real democracy but at least liberty while sinamb is China-style democracy, where there is not only no democracy but also no “bad speech”.

The Wall

“Tear down the wall!” 20 years ago, the Germans did this in Berlin from East to West.

Today, there is another wall, which looks invisible. However, it is ubiquitous and iniquitous in mainland China. From every inch of the Chinese internet community, but things in front of my eye doesn’t seem so optimistic.

When I say “climb” the wall, I will be, surprisingly, asked “what wall” and “where is the wall”?

What a tragedy!

Single Awareness Day

I was really not awared that it is already the Single Awareness Day already in China. Nov.11 is always marked as 1111 in Chinese way for such a calendar day. 1111 looks like four single sticks, which means loneliness. That’s how this day comes from.

For over seven years, I have been trying to remove such a day from my life but just failed year by year. I don’t want to count how many girls I have missed these years because that hurts. It is a failure and shame in my life.

I want to end it quickly.

California Burito

These days, my lunch is always associated with Rancherita’s Californian Burito.

Before coming to the U.S.A, the Mexican burito, in my mind, is known as toasted wrap from KFC. But it has a different name, Mexican chicken burito and Old Peking chicken burito. However, that is too far away from the real burito.

In earlier days in Logan, I don’t have any favor in the real burito. From the Rancherita, the local Mexican restaurant, I tasted different varieties of buritos just to find that none of them is tasteful. Just in these days, Shawn recommended the Californian Burito, with which I found great taste.

So far as I have known, a lot of alien food has to be localized before its success. For example, I just find that the KFC and McDonald are quite differernt from China to America. So I do think there is some change to the real burito. But finally, I like it.

Too far from expectation

Before I came to the U.S.A, I was always expecting a wonderful environment where I could enjoy my life and also focus my mind on studies. However, that goes no farther than expectation, although I do have a nice environment.

Actually, I do know the problem with me, which is the fact that I am not able to focus my energy in study after the ridiculous GRE/TOEFL march since there used to be a similar one in history. Also I am quite willing to quit this embarrassing situation but it is too hard.

With the help of church and Sophy in Wuhan, as well as the anger from hans and elaine, I could hold my desire temporarily and thus fight for a good academic standing. So I succeeded and restart the hope of Yan.

Nevertheless, one cannot always live in a dream. When the dream is over, I had to leave the paradise and face the actuality. When I was in Logan for the second time, I found some of my good friends was no more that close to me. The very feeling of loneliness is again haunting me while Yan in Nanchang just played deaf to me.

Within only one more semester, Sophy in Wuhan also started to play deaf. After that I was just feeling hopeless.

Having experienced so much frustration, I almost forget the high expectation when I was still in Wuhan. I do want to realize that dream but I find it so hard to be that determined.
